Location is frequently the #1 must-have on a buyer’s list, and homes on cul-de-sacs are a popular choice. Realtor.com reported that some buyers pay up to 20% for a home on a cul-de-sac compared to a similar property in a different location. Why do people love homes on cul-de-sacs?

1. Less traffic

Many prefer cul-de-sacs to through streets because traffic on cul-de-sacs is minimal. The only cars that drive on cul-de-sacs are typically residents and their visitors, so you aren’t going to experience rush hour traffic or the noise and pollution it brings with it. Instead, you’ll enjoy increased peace, quiet, and privacy.

2. More safety

A lower number of cars on the road also translates to a higher level of safety. If you like walking, running, biking, or playing outdoors, you run a lower risk of a traffic-related injury on a cul-de-sac than you do on a busy street. Additionally, some property owners may feel more secure because fewer strangers pass through the area to get to another destination.

3. Higher property values

Because cul-de-sacs are a desirable location, home prices trend higher. While that’s not what you want to hear when you’re looking to buy, when you go to sell your home, the location will add a nice value boost and an important advantage in a competitive market.
