Summer Staycation Spots

Summer vacation looks a bit different this year so we’re helping you embrace the STAY-cation!

We’re all trying to stay closer to home this year and while that might mean your typical summer vacation was canceled, it doesn’t mean there’s no way to enjoy the summer. So, we’ve compiled a list of staycation spots within driving distance of Raleigh. Stay safe and enjoy!

“Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is a collective of nine access areas scattered around the shoreline of this undeveloped, 14,000-acre reservoir.” Reconnect with the great outdoors! Camp, boat, hike, or swim.

“Find your laid-back beach vibe at Carolina Beach, one of the most down-to-earth, good-time beaches on the Atlantic Coast. Fun-loving and free-spirited, Carolina Beach offers live music and events, a vintage boardwalk and colorful characters around every corner for a beach vacation that’s unmistakably Carolina Beach.” Check out the Carolina Beach Boardwalk for fun day or night!

“Emerald Isle greets Crystal Coast visitors at the western end of Bogue Banks, offering 12 miles of pristine shoreline and incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and Bogue Inlet. With a variety of lodging options and a focus on family fun, Emerald Isle is a haven for watersports, fishing (onshore, offshore and on the Bogue Inlet Pier), or simply sitting on the sand and enjoying the sound of the waves rolling in.” Rent a local beach house for a romantic getaway or family outing!

Staying Home Instead?

Luckily there are lots of ways to still enjoy the summer while staying safe.

“Surf, sand and fun are just the beginning at the Crystal Coast’s Atlantic Beach. With easy beach access to one of Coastal Living Magazine’s “Best Beaches” and a range of accommodations and dining options to enjoy, this town is a wonderful place to call home during your seaside stay. Take advantage of one of the area’s popular fishing piers, where you can throw a line in or catch a wave off the break. Plus, rest easy that everything from the beach sand to the historic Fort Macon State Park are just a casual walk or bike ride away.”

“Asheville is that type of unique, special place that lingers sweetly in your mind and memories for years to come. The city’s rich architectural legacy with its mix of Art Deco, Beaux Arts and Neoclassical styles is the perfect retro-urban backdrop to the edgy energy that emanates from the locally owned-shops and art galleries, distinctive restaurants and exciting entertainment venues.” If you’re looking for a mountain town escape, Asheville has it all!

“From the diversity of our residents to our colorful history, which you’ll find represented in every corner, Charlotte is a melting pot. We’re a heaping spoonful of natural beauty and metropolitan splendor. We’re a blend of inventive chefs, talented artists, fierce athletes and mission-minded gamechangers. We’re equal parts funky and eclectic, traditional and charming. We’re a mix of night owls, early risers and all-day adventurers. We’re a dash of every different language and a sprinkle of the world’s cultures.”

“Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in the Carolinas, is the place for fun in the sun! Created in 1963 by Duke Energy, Lake Norman is 34 miles long with 520 miles of shoreline.”
