History of New Bern
Founded in 1710 by Swiss and German settlers, New Bern is North Carolina’s second-oldest town and served as the state’s capital from 1770 to 1792. Steeped in colonial charm, it earned the nickname "The Athens of the South" thanks to its thriving cultural scene and stunning architecture.
